Since I was in first year studying in IIUM, I have joined a club (under CENSERVE IIUM) named Jam’iyyatul Khadamatil Quran or known as JKQ. I had the opportunity to develop educational content to teach al-Quran to selected children. At times, I joined in as the facilitator to get first-hand experience dealing with them. I experienced many unique and cute incidents throughout the classes. In 2018-2019, I was appointed as the Assistant Head for Quranic Project Bureau and was accountable to cater 4 different sub-bureaus ‘houses’ which each of them took care of a group of children/students in different neighborhoods around Gombak and Setapak. Those were children from; 1) IqFun Darul Ilmi Batu 11, 2) PPR Kg. Baru Air Panas, Setapak, 3) Rohingya Education Centre, Greenwood and 4) Akademi Fateh Hakim, Kg. Sg. Chinchin.

While studying psychology, I have taken chances to join psychological-related programmes, such as talks, seminars and workshops. One of the minor psychology programs yet very impactful for me was “It’s Okay Not to Be Okay” talk for Mental Health Week 2019. I was part of the organizing committee who directly involved in the programme. Throughout the programme, I have seen many students who were once very afraid to open up, now stands proudly beating the stigma of being mental health survivors. The speaker, Miss Pamilia, who was my lecturer for Personality Psychology class is a very inspiring and charismatic figure who gave meaningful and positive impacts toward her students. Even though I might not be a significant figure to the programme, I personally think, as a student of psychology, would like to continuously witness such inspiring movements toward raising awareness while becoming a supportive knowledgeable social member.

Marriage: the right ways and the wrong ways of going about it in our society today.

“We want to get married because we want to avoid zina” That is what common sentences utter by our people nowadays, especially youth. Even though it is partially true, but we need to be sure that it is not the only intention they have. Marriage in Islam is generally defined as a social and legal relationship intended to strengthen and extend family relationships (Huda, 2019). In making the marriage successful till the death set them part, there are a lot of things need to be compromised, sacrificed and discussed. Though we do not deny that Love is something that we need in order to make the marriage goes on, merely LOVE is not enough. Once I have heard in a talk, saying that marriage is like two different people, with two different ambitions and passions, objectives and goals with two different paces, going in the same way, on the same cart. Thus, they need to compromise, sacrifice and communicate a lot so that they would be able to go to the destination, in the same path and ...
